Why Bilingual Education is important to me
Bilingual education programs are classes taught in two languages, generally, English, the target language, plus students’ native language, to linguistically diverse students. Teachers use both languages to explain concepts of lessons, chapters on textbooks and exercises that students feel difficulty in understanding. Students can learn new English vocabulary in a different way, like they can use native language to remember words’ definitions. Students can even get an opportunity to improve their own language skill by studying new things. In addition, they practice and write their own language customarily, so they won’t forget native culture. Bilingual education programs aim to he/p limited English proficient student’s master English; and help those students master challenging content in areas of the curriculum. Students will learn richness of linguistics and cultural diversity in schools.
Bilingual education programs are important to me. Basically, it helps me to understand English easier. I remember I couldn’t speak and listen to English, liked a deaf-mute person my first few days in school. For example, I didn’t know what teachers talked about, and I couldn’t comminute with other classmates in classrooms. Teachers used my native language – Chinese to translate the meanings that they tried to tell me in one month later by bilingual education programs. Then, I knew what they talked about. I accumulated vocabulary every day in school. Usually, I can speak and listen better than the past. It helps with my job or career. For example, I am a bilingual; perhaps I could make more money than someone who knows only the language could. Eventually, I can study for the purpose of application, and then I’ll return to my native country and work there. I want to benefit my country, make it more successful in the world Andy if I could. I can use bilingual language to communicate with diverse neighbors in community. It increases learning of academic areas, such as science and history classes. I can learn new and more knowledge of science and history, and vocabulary not easy to use or see in the society. I can understand daily lessons in those classes when teachers translate in Chinese. In addition, I can improve native language skill because if I don’t know a word in English, I can use Chinese to find out the word when I use a dictionary. Therefore, I will improve Chinese vocabulary.
Bilingual education programs have a lot of advantages, but they always have some disadvantages. For example, I use Chinese words to transfer English that I need to use in a sentence; however, sometimes it doesn’t make senesce when I write an essay. I will speak Chinese all the time, no English that can’t improve my English. If I speak English, I think nobody can understand because I don’t pronounce it exactly right.
Although bilingual education programs have some disadvantages, however, their advantages are more than disadvantages. I think it is still a program that I need. If I didn’t have bilingual education programs, I would still be on a very lower level of English, or wore. I recognize that my speaking, listening and reading are worse, however, bilingual education programs let me have a chance to do better than the past. I can do well that are bilingual education programs’ praiseworthy achievements. Therefore, bilingual education programs are very important to because they bring a lot of knowledge.
