My Reaction

The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison tells us a dismissed and trivialized life of Pecola Breedlove, she is a young and lonely black girl who rejects racism from the society by her family and friends. She hates her own race, looking and the color of eyes. Pecola's classmates insult her black skin by chanting. Her father sexually molests her more than once he impregnates her. Because of these tragic experiences, she hopes herself will change. Therefore, she prays for her eyes to turn blue makes her life be different.

The message I got from the novel is a person's world could fall apart from the society by racial discriminated. I think the author has been written the novel for young African-American females because it relates to a black girl is living in a racist society of America during 1940s. The author was successful in getting the message across which the author characterizes Pecola as a person who falls her world apart from the society. Her classmates insult her black skin, her father sexually with and impregnates her.

In addition, she rejects racism from the society by her family and friends. Maybe the author wants people know how tragic and self-loathing an eleven-year-old black girl has. The bad points in the novel I want to say that are the noel's formation and the mood is too sentimental for readers. The good points in the novel are the author uses literature elements, such as imagery and metaphors to characterize Pecola has the tragic experiences.
